How to Begin a Relationship with Jesus Christ...
ADMIT: Admit to God that you are a sinner.
“All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
To admit that we are a sinner is to admit that we have disobeyed God in our lives. We acknowledge we have done things that are wrong and that our sin has separated us from God.
REPENT: Turn away from your sin.
“For Godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.” 2 Corinthians 7:10
The knowledge that we are sinners who have sinned against a Holy God should lead us to be willing to change the direction of our lives and turn away from our sin.
BELIEVE: Believe in Jesus Christ and His substitutionary sacrifice on Calvary’s Cross as a payment for your sin.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes on Him shall never perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
Jesus lived a sinless life and perfectly fulfilled the law of God. Though He was without sin, He bore our sin on the Cross and shed His blood and died in our place. We place our faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus for our salvation. There is nothing that we can do to earn or merit our salvation. We receive God’s gift of salvation by grace through faith.
COMMIT: Commit your life to Jesus.
“Then said Jesus unto His disciples, ‘If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.’” Luke 9:23
We must be willing to turn control of our lives over to Jesus Christ. We must die to our own wants, plans and desires and be willing to follow Christ wherever He leads us.
CONFESS: Confess Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
We must pray and receive the forgiveness for sin that God graciously offers us, place our full trust in the death of Jesus as the only satisfactory payment for our sins, and acknowledge Him as the One who guides and controls our lives.
